Technology, Social Networks, Employment: How Access to Social Capital at Scale is the Missing Piece to the Opportunity Puzzle
Young people around the world need real solutions to access opportunities to succeed. This session will dive into the role of technology in accessing social capital and how that leads to employment and livelihoods at scale. We will stress the relevance of a young audience using their phone as a means to seek economic opportunities and unlock potential. We will discuss how Signpost and MicroMentor are providing access to business mentoring and access to networks and information resources with results that lead to employment.
MicroMentor’s model helped create an estimated 6,300 jobs last year at $144 per FTE job, and Signpost reached over 1.6 million individuals with information targeted at refugees and asylum seekers on integration into host communities, with a key focus on labor market information. We will explore how these models for scale can be a breakthrough solution for employment.
