President Obama’s Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative (YLAI) empowers entrepreneurs and innovative civil society leaders to strengthen their capacity to launch and advance their entrepreneurial ideas and effectively contribute to social and economic development in their communities. In fall 2016, 250 YLAI Professional Fellows from Latin America and the Caribbean will expand their leadership and entrepreneurial experience through fellowships at businesses and civil society organizations across the U.S. 

PROGRAM: International Leadership Programme, May 2016


The International Leadership Programme (ILP) is an innovative leadership development opportunity which aims to develop leadership skills, inspire thinking about global issues and equip young people to become involved in their local communities. The programme begins with the International Summit, which brings together 80 international young leaders aged 25-35 to participate in a two week residential training conference, featuring world-renowned leadership trainers and speakers.

The School Enterprise Challenge is a student-led, business start-up awards programme for schools around the world. This free programme guides and supports teachers and students to set up real school businesses. Students develop essential skills in business and entrepreneurship in a practical, fun and innovative way. The programme helps schools generate extra income for their school, or a social cause of their choice.

FELLOWSHIP: Young African Researchers at the Heart of Change, April 2016

To launch the Matasa Fellows Network, 10 fellowships will be awarded in 2016 through a competitive process. Fellows will attend two review workshops, and each fellow will produce a high quality synthesis paper and related policy brief. The synthesis papers will be published in a special issue of the IDS BulletinBy focusing the work of Matasa Fellows on youth unemployment, this initiative will address one of the greatest development challenges in Africa today. While this issue has moved to the top of the development agenda in recent years, the research and evidence base to support policy and programs around youth employment remains both fragmented and weak.

The Preparing Global Leaders Academy (PGLA) is a premiere international educational program for the best young professionals in the world. The program seeks to prepare aspiring global scholar-leaders with the tools that are necessary for effective leadership in an increasingly complex world. Students and young professionals take short courses from internationally recognized faculty and participate in a range of leadership simulations. Specifically, participants will learn how to develop an opposable, interdisciplinary mind with an ability to work with and across ideological, national, religious, class and racial differences.

The Future of Work in Africa: Innovations in Youth Employment is a six week online professional development course which will cover both the obstacles and challenges of African Youth employment with a focus on innovative solutions and promising new initiatives. Each week participants will explore models, methodologies and the sectors critical to creating employment opportunities in Africa. In order to create a rich learning experience, the course will be comprised of a select group of program managers, policy makers, fellows and innovators chosen based on their background and work in the sector. 

FELLOWSHIP: YSEALI Professional Fellowship, March 2016

Over the course of a year, 250 YSEALI Professionals will have five-week placements in U.S. non-profit organizations and state and local government offices. YSEALI Professional Fellows will work in the field of Civic engagement, NGO management, Economic empowerment, Governance, Legislative process, Environmental and natural resources management. Learn how to become a YSEALI Professional Fellow. Or, if you are 18-25, you could be eligible to be a YSEALI Academic Fellow.

The Global Good Fund is accepting applications from social entrepreneurs for our 2017 Fellowship Program cohort.The Global Good Fund Fellowship is a 15-month program supporting the leadership development of young social entrepreneurs across the globe. The Global Good Fund  invests in these innovators by pairing them with executives who serve as Coaches, and by providing leadership assessment resources, a network of peers, sector expertise, and targeted financial capital.

Ashoka's Changemakerxchange, a global collaboration platform for young social innovators, is hosting a summit in #Japan from June 1 to June 6, 2016. In collaboration with and supported by Robert Bosch Stiftung and the ANA Blue Wing program the summit gathers 18 outstanding changemakers in Hiroshima and Tsuwano, Japan, for the exchange of ideas and experiences. The summit is open to applicants, aged 18-30, who lead their own social venture from Japan, Germany, South Korea, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Singapore.
