This report presents the findings of research carried out in Afghanistan, Colombia, Libya and Sierra Leone between January and October 2018 by the United Network of Young Peacebuilders (UNOY Peacebuilders) with the support of USAID’s YouthPower Learning Project. The project was undertaken in collaboration with four UNOY Peacebuilders member organisations: Afghans for Progressive Thinking, Fundación Escuelas de Paz, Together We Built It and Youth Participation in Peace and Development-Sierra Leone (YPPD-SL).

The value chain assessment tool helps implementers and young people identify market opportunities in their communities. This tool is easily adaptable to other contexts and offers a scalable mechanism to support youth transitioning to the working world. It is our hope that globally, the tool will soon leverage open-sourced and crowd-sourced data.

These programs employ numerous professionals, paraprofessionals, and volunteers. It is essential for this early childhood workforce to be highly prepared and well-supported to ensure that young children have a strong foundation for healthy development and future success.
Youth in Central America face overwhelming challenges. In addition to poorly funded schools, inadequate access to secondary and tertiary education, and limited opportunities for employment, youth in El Salvador also confront epidemic levels of violence and a gang problem that challenge their day to day decision making process.
The changing world of youth economic opportunity is heavily influenced by prevailing global trends in migration. Most workforce development (WFD) models assume youth recruitment and supports in a localized area, and training for employment in the same catchment zone.
