That the world of work is changing is undisputed. Just how much, how fast and what it really means for the world’s young people presents a mixed picture. A new World Bank Human Development Report (2019) on The Changing Nature of Work offers us some key insights: First, technological change is not happening as quickly as believed; second, we should be far more concerned about inequality in all its forms but especially of opportunity; and three, what is needed now is a new social contract and much greater investment in human capital.
