Technical Training: Considerations in Adapting Learning Materials for Youth Economic Opportunities Programming

This is a 1-day, experiential training course that explores considerations for adapting existing economic capacity building activities for young people. More specifically, participants will consider why adapt economic capacity building materials, different types of adaptations, and fitting new/adapted material into existing institution or project structures.  The touchstone of the training will be a hands-on exercise that allows participants to apply lessons learned from the workshop to an existing curriculum. By the end of the workshop, participants will leave with a curriculum adaptation action plan that speaks to the economic capacity building needs of a particular target group.

The UN Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) and The MasterCard Foundation today released a new publication titled Assessing New Youth-Focused Products: Pilot Testing Financial and Non-financial Services for Youth in Sub-Saharan Africa. The paper is based on the experiences of 10 financial service providers in Sub-Saharan Africa that are part of YouthStart, and synthesizes key recommendations, technical considerations and best practices when launching new youth-focused services. It was launched at a panel discussion at Making Cents International’s 2012 Global Youth Economic Opportunities Conference, which was facilitated by YouthStart Program Manager, Maria Perdomo. . The Conference is the biggest international forum on youth financial inclusion.
